For the past week, CV9 students have been busy during their Freshman Seminar classes decorating their classroom door for CV9's annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest! Congratulations to the winning doors in Mrs. Hewlett, Mrs. Nase, and Mr. McGough's classrooms!

CV9 students will be participating in a STEM summit sponsored by Junior Achievement on January 29, January 30 and January 31. We need additional volunteers to help facilitate the various stations. Please see the attached handout for details and registration information.

This week is Digital Citizenship Week! We are challenging our CV9 Digital Citizens to take some time and reflect on how often they are using media and tech each day. Are you mindlessly scrolling social media each night, or have you established some ways in which you can separate and spend time with your family and friends? We know we are living in the Digital Age, but we want to ensure that we are using our tech & media in a safe, productive and healthy way.

October is Digital Citizenship month and we are focused on collaborating with our families to help develop our students at CV9 to be successful Digital Citizens! Keep an eye out this month for new resources that will be shared with students and families to continue the important discussion surrounding responsible device use.

Last spring freshmen in Mr. Jeff Martin’s environmental sciences classes at CV9 were given garden areas to plant 🌻sunflowers, pumpkins, and more. Check out how their garden is growing!
❓How tall do you think the sunflowers will grow?

🦅 ALWAYS AN EAGLE // Each year, we say farewell to many great staff as they enter their well-deserved retirements, and 2024 certainly is no exception. Please help us give a huge shoutout of appreciation to 🌟 ALL of our amazing staff 🌟 who retired this year, including these two rockstars who have a combined 56 years of service to our Eagles.
📸 Mr. Martin (CV9 principal with 37 years as an Eagle. WOW!) and Mr. Gallagher (Eagle View Principal retiring after 19 years with CV).

HE'S RUNNING INTO RETIREMENT // We share with mixed emotions that our therapy dog, Banjo, is stepping into a well-deserved retirement this summer. Thank you for welcoming Banjo into our school community and for offering him endless amounts of love and support during his tenure with CV.
Said Banjo's handler, Alexis Toburen, our district social worker, "Banjo has shown me the true power of animals and their impact on students and staff daily. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share him with you, and I know he will miss coming to school each day."
Please help us celebrate Banjo and wish him well as he heads into a well-deserved retirement.

🥫 THAT'S 2 MILES OF POP TABS // Throughout the year, we shared the story of Miss Millie Eckerd and team's efforts to collect pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA. We're #CVproud to share that, collectively, our school community has donated more than 75 pounds - or 126,720 - tabs! Thank you to everyone who donated. Special shoutout to Mountain View Middle School for collecting and contributing more than 15 pounds of tabs during the last several months. WOW! The Ronald McDonald House helps families of children receiving essential, lifesaving medical care through Hershey. Still have tabs that you want to donate to the cause? You can drop them off with Millie Eckerd at CV High School on or before August 1st for the 23-24 donation or you can save them for the project next school year. While you are having a little fun this summer, consider saving those pop tabs (from soup cans, soda, energy drinks, etc., size of the tab does not matter).

🏆 THEY’RE HEADING TO NATIONALS // The Cumberland Valley Science Olympiad team is leaving today for Michigan State University, where they will compete in the NATIONAL tournament this weekend. Students representing CV include 🦅 Eagles from CV High School and CV9. Good luck, and know that we’re #CVproud!
This will be CV's second Nationals appearance in three years, 2022 being held virtually. PA sends the top 2 teams from the state tournament. CV will represent PA high schools along with Harriton HS from the Lower Merion School District.

Special thanks to all of the EMS crews across the region who work daily to keep our school community healthy + safe. We appreciate you every day, but want to give you a special shoutout during EMS Appreciation Week! 📸 courtesy our friends at Silver Spring EMS. #CVproud #ThankYOU

🥨 SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS (AND HONORING ONE OF OUR OWN) // On the last day of spring break, members of our ⚾ Eagles baseball team got together to send Coach Kilpatrick and members of his troop a (salty, sweet, and oh-so-crunchy) taste of home.
With generous support from the Rice family and Utz, in addition to donations from our baseball, softball, and football families (Coach Kil is also an assistant football coach), players gathered yesterday to package the snacks that will be sent to First Lieutenant Collin Kilpatrick and his Pennsylvania National Guard Alpha Troop 2-104 Cavalry out of Hazelton, Pa, who are currently stationed overseas. It'll be a much-welcomed delivery as Coach Kil says some of the foods he and his troops miss most are Pennsylvania's snacks.
👏 Please help us give a shoutout to Coach Kil and his troop for their service to our country and to our teams for this beautiful community service project! Also, be sure to tune into ABC 27 News at 5:30 and 6 p.m. today (April 2, 2024) as they spotlight our Eagles and their efforts to support Coach Kil and troops.
Special thanks also to Mumma's Appliances for loaning the team the box truck in support of their cause.
